The CSA at Four Winds has been in operation since 1993. In 2010, Jay turned his CSA portion of the farm over to two former employees, Sam and Erin, who breathed into it a second wind. Leslie Lewis, Sam Devine, and Anthony Post are running the CSA for the 2019 season.
With Jay and Jenna as their guide, Leslie, Sam and Anthony will continue to farm in the tradition of Four Winds, using an organic, no-till method. Since tractors are rarely used and weeding is done by hand or with hand tools, this method of farming not only leaves a very small carbon footprint, the resulting super-healthy soils produce great quality vegetables. You can taste the difference!
HOW A CSA WORKS
CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) are mutually beneficial arrangements between farmers and member families. They ensure a generous supply of fresh, high quality produce to the consumer, while also providing a reasonable income for the farmer. And by directly supporting local farms, members help keep local agriculture profitable & sustainable.
What to Expect
Being a member of our CSA provides you with a weekly supply of fresh, local, sustainably grown vegetables. The shares are designed to generously accommodate the vegetable needs of two adults or a small family. The contents of the share will vary over the course of the growing season.
Schedules and Times
Members may choose between two pickup days:
Tuesdays from 2:30 – 7:30 PM at the farm
Wednesdays from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Hudson Highlands Land Trust in Garrison
Pickups begin the first week of June and run through the last week in October.
By joining a CSA, you understand that:
- Your payment entitles you to a weekly share of produce
- You will share the risks and rewards of the season with the farmers and other shareholders
- Due to weather and other variables, you may receive more or less produce than you expect
- It is your responsibility to pick up your share each week during the scheduled pick up time; if you fail to pick up your share it will be discarded
- Your payment is non-refundable
