Our desire to reduce our carbon footprint is illlustrated in how we manage our seedling production. We use a farm generated source of fuel to heat the greenhouse – composting manure. As manure composts, it produces heat. We compost the manure right in the greenhouse using a small forced in air system, and use the finished compost the following year for our potting mix. By growing our seedlings in our own compost based potting mix, we provide the healthiest soil environment for those plants to grow in. Our plants are full of good energy and ready to grow as soon as they are planted into a well cared for garden. The vegetable varieties we grow for sale are all varieties we have grown on the farm. They are also varieties that are difficult to find elsewhere. Any variety that doesn’t produce well or taste good we won’t sell.
